Editor’s note: To help voters to be better informed, Brockvilleist will be asking the same five questions of all council candidates in advance of the municipal election, which will be held on Monday, Oct. 26, 2026. Questions were sent to all candidates on Sept. 4, 2026. We will publish their responses as we receive them. Below are the responses from candidate Bruce Wylie.

1) Tell us a little bit about your professional background, including any prior municipal or other political participation, as well as about you, personally. What made you want to run for council?

With 55 years on radio in Brockville, I’ve interviewed many political figures during that time, including Prime Minister Joe Clark, Ontario Premiers Mike Harris and Doug Ford and many local MPs, MPPs and mayors.

2) How would you describe your personal political ideology and/or affiliation?

I listen to all parties – have talked to more Conservatives because they are in the leadership roles in our riding.

3) What are the three most common issues voters bring up to you as you campaign?

Taxes is number one. I haven’t had a chance to talk to that many yet. I am having a meet and greet on Wednesday, Sept. 23 at Luna at 6 p.m. to listen to concerns.

4) What three issues are most pressing/important to address locally in your opinion?

  1. How do we keep taxes at a reasonable level.
  2. How do we encourage new industry and business to come here.
  3. I believe Brockville has a lot to offer – I think we need to promote ourselves more.
  4. Homelessness is a major concern – Brockville has changed because of this. What can council do to help the situation? I’m not sure.

5) What do you feel sets you apart from other candidates?

I believe I know Brockville after 55 years of being on the radio. I have learned to listen to people, to talk to the right people and get things done.
