Brockville City Manager Sandra MacDonald to retire in 2027

Sandra MacDonald – City of Brockville

Brockville City Manager Sandra MacDonald is set to retire next spring after more than 32 years working for the City of Brockville.

MacDonald, who has served as city manager since April 2022, will retire effective March 31, 2027, the City announced on Monday, Sept. 21.

MacDonald began her career with the City in 1994 as a financial systems analyst in the Operations Department, going on to become deputy clerk in 2000 and city clerk in 2004.

In November 2021, she assumed the role of interim city manager before being appointed to the position permanently the following April, according to the announcement.

Over her career, MacDonald has worked with numerous councils and generations of City staff. City officials credited her with helping guide everyone through periods of change, operational challenges and community initiatives.

“Her leadership, knowledge and commitment have earned the respect of colleagues across the organization and have made a lasting contribution to the City,” officials shared in the announcement.

On the heels of MacDonald’s retirement announcement, the City noted they are beginning the recruitment process for her successor. A selection committee made up of Mayor Matt Wren and two members of council will oversee the initial selection process and establish a shortlist of candidates.

Because the 2026 municipal election is approaching on Oct. 26, both mayoral candidates have been consulted on the recruitment approach. The final selection process will take place after the election and will therefore be the responsibility of the incoming mayor and council.

The City explained that beginning the search now will allow time for a thorough recruitment process and a smooth leadership transition before MacDonald’s retirement next year.
