Brockville SPCA among animal centres benefiting from $200,000 partnership

Cats, kittens and dogs waiting for adoption at the Humane Society Leeds and Grenville Animal Centre in Brockville will live a little more comfortably as they reap the benefits of a two-year, $200,000 sponsorship from Pet Valu.
Through Pet Valu’s Companions for Change program, the 13 operational Ontario SPCA locations, including Brockville, will receive a continuous supply of Fresh 4 Life litter for cats and kittens in its care, while every cat and dog adopted from will go home with a JUMP! toy and a Performatrin treat,
This fresh round of funding builds on a partnership that has provided the Ontario SPCA with more than $700,000 in support through Pet Valu’s Companions for Change program since 2019.
The sponsorship is intended to improve the comfort of animals staying in the centres while helping ease the transition for pets moving into new homes, according to a release issued on October 22, 2026.
“Toys and treats encourage the development of healthy bonds between the animal and their new family and having both quickly accessible when a pet arrives at their new home can help them ease into their new environment,” says Sonya Reichel, Vice President of Operations, Ontario SPCA and Humane Society. “Ensuring cats and kittens are clean and comfortable while they are in our care reduces stress and boosts their overall health.”
Greg Ramier, CEO of Pet Valu, told Brockvilleist that the company was pleased to continue supporting the organization’s work by helping animals in need.
“Every stage of a pet’s life is unique and, every day in our stores across Canada, our Animal Care Experts provide pets and their pet parents with compassion, expertise and products for all stages of their lives, from their earliest days to their senior years,” Ramier detailed. “Transitioning from a shelter to a forever home is a particularly stressful stage for a pet so this Companions for Change sponsorship was created to help ease this transition.”
Kallie Milleman , Corporate Partnerships Specialist at Ontario SPCA and Humane Society explained that in 2025, the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society Leeds and Grenville Animal Centre in Brockville found loving homes for more than 500 animals.
“We expect this number to be even higher in 2026 and look forward to our partnership with Pet Valu supporting these animals and the work we do,” Milleman told Brockvilleist. “The Ontario SPCA does not receive annual government funding and depends on the generosity of donors and partners like Pet Valu’s Companions for Change program to help us continue the life-changing work we do each day.”
Milleman said that in addition to corporate support, community help is always welcome, noting that common items such as towels, blankets, leashes, collars, and toys are especially appreciated at SPCA animal centres.
“We also encourage people to visit our website to see their local animal centre’s wish list and explore the many ways individuals and businesses can get involved,” she urged.
